The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) stopped the filling of the lake in Tellapur by pulling down barriers erected upstream of the water on Friday.
Mella Cheruvu, spread over 108 acres, was covered with debris in half of its extent, affecting water levels, HYDRAA said.
Residents of the area complained to the Prajavani HYDRAA program that water supplies to the lake were blocked at several places. Member of Parliament from Medak M. Raghunandan Rao also submitted a written complaint to HYDRAA on the same issue.
In view of this, HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath issued directions for an inquiry. A ground-level inspection revealed that truckloads of soil and boulders had been brought and dumped into the lake. It was found that the height of the inlets had been increased to block the inflows, the note said.
