The Medical Association (IMA) doctors announced a strike in Maharashtra for 24 hours from 18 September to protest against the step of the state government to allow homeopathic doctors who completed a one -year certification course in modern pharmacology (CCMP) to register and prescribe allopathic drugs. President Ima Mahashtra Dr. Santosh Kadam mentioned that emergency medical services would continue to function.
Kadam said that approximately 1.8 Lakh allopathic doctors around the state participate in the strike, PTI informed.
Today, the government will start registering homeopaths independently with Mahashtra Medical Council (MMC). MMC is a government authority that oversees the registration, regulation and ethical standards of healthcare workers in the Mahari.
Gave CM Fadnavis “Memorandum about our complaints”
Kadam said, “Our representatives met with the main minister on Wednesday and gave him a memorandum about our complaints. We are going ahead with a 24 -hour strike that will start from 8:00 to 18:00. He mentioned that emergency medical services would continue to function.
He added that the government and organizations of the Government and the organizations of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), including the Central MaraRard (Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors) and BMC Mararard, killed decisions and promised to take part.
President of the Federation of all Indian Medical Associations, Dr. Akshay Dongardive warned that doctors would start nationwide protest and even take the streets to inform the public about “risks” unless the government change its decision.
In an earlier letter to the main minister, the Mahashtra unit in IMA said that this step would allow “insufficiently trained” individuals to treat patients, which would potentially result in incorrect diagnosis, adverse reactions, antibiotic resistance and patients’ death, especially in rural areas.
The Association also warned that the registration of doctors with CCMP certification with MMC would create a dual system, causing confusion, misconceptions and distrust among the public. In addition, the report noted that it could undermine the international credibility of medical education and Maharashtra.
He stressed that the authorization of CCMP (Homeopathic) doctors to register with the Council would give an example, which would make another practicing alternative medicine to seek equal recognition, which would potentially result “chaos in the medical system and erosion of public trust”.
