The account of X Iltia Mufti, daughter of former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehboob Mufti, was blocked in J&K on Monday (May 11, 2026).
It comes days after J&K filed a first information report against unidentified individuals “propagating separatist ideology and propagating false information with the intention of instigating illegal activities prejudicial to the peace, sovereignty and integrity of India”.
On April 29, Ms. Mufti posted a video of late Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on X. “He may not agree with Geelani Sahab’s ideology, but this old video where he emphasized the importance of Urdu makes a lot of sense, among other reasons. It is worth watching,” said Ms. Mufti from the context of J online government services income in Union. Territory (UT).
The video has gone viral with around 157k views and over 168 reposts on X. In the video, Mr. Geelani highlights the importance of Urdu for India, Pakistan, Kashmir and Muslims.
