
The Konanakunte police traced and arrested a 22-year-old mechanic who allegedly crushed a 40-year-old rag picker to death with a ₹10 stone in Yelachenahalli on Wednesday.
According to police, the rag was lying dead outside the store with his head crushed by a rock. Police registered a case of murder and took the body for post-mortem and collected CCTV footage from the area and surroundings.
Based on a technicality, the police arrested the accused Sahil Pasha of Ilyas Nagar within four hours of the crime. The probe revealed that Sahil went to work irregularly and spent most of his time away from home. He would pick fights with people living on the streets, police said.
The accused is said to have confessed that he confronted the deceased who was sleeping outside the closed shop and demanded money but the deceased refused to pay.
Sahil angrily left the scene only to return later to see the deceased sleeping. In a fit of rage, he is said to have picked up a stone and smashed it on his head, killing him on the spot.
The police subjected the accused to a medical examination to see if he was under the influence of any intoxication.
