ICC T20I Rankings: India’s UK tour falls apart but Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma retain No.1 and No.2
Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma (ANI Photo) India’s disappointing tour of Great Britain continued to play out on the pitch, but the latest ICC Men’s T20I rankings secured a rare silver lining as Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma retained the top two batting positions despite the team’s struggles against Ireland and England.India’s white-ball campaign suffered a miserable run, starting with a 2-0 series defeat to Ireland before Shreyas Iyer’s side slipped to a 2-0 deficit against England in the ongoing five-match T20I series after the opening match was swept. England’s emphatic 125-run victory in the third T20I also ended as India’s biggest defeat in the format.Yet, despite the setbacks, India’s leading T20I batsmen continue to dominate the global rankings.
Ishan, Abhishek remain on top despite India’s slump
The latest ICC rankings have confirmed that Ishan Kishan remains the world’s No.1 in T20Is, with teammate Abhishek Sharma retaining the No.2 position.There was another positive for India in the form of new T20I captain Shreyas Iyer, who enjoyed one of the biggest bounces of the week. After scoring 68 in the rain-hit opener against England and following it up with 37 in the second T20I, Iyer has risen an astonishing 425 places to rank 93 in the batting charts.England, meanwhile, was richly rewarded for her feats of command.Jacob Bethell climbed seven places to No.8 after his unbeaten 76 off 46 balls helped England secure victory in the second T20I.Sam Curran also enjoyed a productive week, climbing 12 places to 108th among the batsmen after contributing an unbeaten 41, and climbed 12 places to 71st in the bowling charts after taking 3/33. His all-round performances also took him up six places to 13th among T20I all-rounders.
