The weekend family trip of the US Vance to Disneyland met with protests and political resistance, including sharp criticism of California Governor Gavin Newsom. The visit came only a day after the federal immigration agents detained around 200 suspicious undocumented immigrants at large LED raids via Ventura.
Governor Newsom took the social media on Saturday and shared a video of Vance in an amusement park in South California next to his wife Usha and two of their children. In a pointed post on X (formerly Twitter) Newsom wrote: “Hope you will like your family time, @jdvance. Families you tear certainly not.”
The post quickly attracted extensive attention and amplified the tension around the immigration of Trump’s administration and its effects on the communities of immigrants in California.
Demonstration in Disneyland
Protests broke out on Friday evening and Saturday near Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. Between 100 and 150 demonstrators, they gathered at Harbor Boulevard in front of the entrance to the amusement park, with another crowd formed at the Grand Californian Hotel, assumed that Vance has remained according to more reports.
Some demonstrators waved Mexican flags and held signs of condemning immigration raids. “I am offending me because so many families are terrorized by the policy of the federal government,” said Orange County Vicente Sarmiento, Democrat, on Friday with Ktla.
A family -friendly family trip with high security
Despite political tensions, the visit of Vice President was reportedly a private family trip. Videos of social media confirmed that Vance was traveling in the park on Saturday morning.
The Vance family could see several popular attractions including Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and a visit to Tom Sawyer. The family also dined the exclusive 21 Royal Restaurant inside the park.
Political optics in controlling policy
Vice President Vance Disneyland followed shortly after aggressive ice operations in Southern California, which prompted criticism that the efforts to promote administration cause fear and division between immigrants.
