The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has intervened to prevent large-scale encroachment on a park and utility land in Kondapur village of Serilingampally mandal, Ranga Reddy district, and has fenced off nearly four acres of various land to protect it from further illegal occupation.
Sri Venkateswara HAL Colony was developed in the 1980s on an area of 57.20 acres comprising 627 residential plots. As part of the approved layout, two 1.2 acre parks, another 2 acres and approximately 1,000 square yards of public amenity land were allocated. However, over the years, these vacant areas were allegedly subdivided, converted into residential plots and sold off.
Sri Venkateswara HAL Residents’ Welfare Association, which fought the issue in the Supreme Court, approached HYDRAA through the Prajavani scheme.
During a court-ordered inspection, HYDRAA officials discovered that one of the 1.2-acre parks had been illegally subdivided into 11 lots and sold. Two other parks and a public benefit location were also affected in a similar way.
Association representatives informed HYDRAA that the layout was created in the 1980s and that some of those who dealt with these plots later sold them to real estate companies and other individuals.
Due to these transactions, access to the park lands was blocked and residents were not allowed to even approach them, local residents said during a field inspection, a HYDRAA statement said.
