Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) issued a statement on the bomb threat email received on December 7. The bomb threat email was sent to Hyderabad airport’s customer support ID for three flights, all of which landed safely, ANI reported.
- 6E 7178 from Kannur to Hyderabad – landed safely at 22:50 on 7 December
- LH 752 from Frankfurt to Hyderabad – landed safely at 02:00 on 8 December.
- BA 277 from Heathrow to Hyderabad. It landed safely at 5:30 a.m. on December 8.
Standard security protocols have been initiated for all three aircraft, according to airport authorities. The bomb threat comes at a time when delays and cancellations of IndiGo flights continue to cause unrest among passengers. The last six consecutive days of mammoth cancellations and operational hiccups. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a notice to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers seeking an explanation within 24 hours of receiving the notice.
Although the airline sought an extension of time to reply, the DGCA gave time till 6 pm on December 8. The DGCA held the airline accountable for the widespread operational disruptions in recent days and pointed to “significant deficiencies in planning, oversight and resource management”.
Nationwide flight disruptions were reported at major airports, with Telangana’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Telangana’s capital being the worst hit. As many as 400 IndiGo flights were canceled on December 7.
- A total of 115 flights were canceled at Hyderabad Airport on Sunday, including 54 arrivals and 61 departures.
- At Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, 109 flights were cancelled, including 59 departures and 50 arrivals.
- The Kolkata airport witnessed the cancellation of nearly 76 flights, including 53 departures and 23 arrivals.
- Ahmedabad saw about 33 percent cancellation of IndiGo flights. A total of 27 flights were cancelled, including 16 arrivals and 11 departures.
- Pune saw about 25 flight cancellations on Sunday. In addition, nearly 18 flights from Pune airport were canceled on December 8.
- 6 IndiGo flights were canceled at Agartala airport.
- Trichy Airport witnessed a total of 11 cancellations, including 5 canceled arrivals and 6 canceled departures.
IndiGo on Sunday evening expressed optimism over its operations, saying the airline would improve services and operate 1,650 flights today after nearly 1,500 the previous day.
