Politically sensitive areas in Kozhikode district have once again been placed under a heavy security blanket as part of preparations to combat incidents of violence and unwholesome celebrations following the announcement of local body election results. Areas that witnessed tension and isolated clashes during the election campaign and on election day will be under strict surveillance by the Rapid Deployment Force.
Support of more than 7,000 police officers will be provided throughout the district to maintain public order. Armed policemen from various battalions will be on duty near 20 enumeration centers in the district, with senior police officers conducting a detailed review of the arrangements on Friday (December 13, 2025). Instructions have also been issued to various officers of the Station House to keep a close eye on developments at the ground level and ensure swift action in case of any breach.
The recently formed patrolling units will be active for two more days with their day and night patrols in Nadapuram, Kuttiyadi, Vadakara, Valayam, Edachery and Chombal. Vehicle inspections will also be stepped up with the support of local units, especially in areas prone to street fighting during the celebrations.
Although no bans were issued, the police decided to discourage mass gatherings, provocative demonstrations and sloganeering in sensitive places. Blitz checks will continue in areas where clashes between LDF, UDF and NDA activists took place during election campaigns.
As part of the heightened cyber patrol, any provocative social media posts inciting riots or violence will be immediately reported to the cyber cell for action. The cyber wings of various political parties have also asked their volunteers to remain alert and identify inflammatory content as some of the recent clashes have been linked to provocative online content.
Police also warned that using high-powered firecrackers in unauthorized areas or attempting to disrupt vehicular traffic would attract strict legal action. CCTV was activated in many vulnerable areas to strengthen security measures, while bomb detection and disposal units and dog squads carried out several rounds of checks in public places.
