The Madras High Court on Thursday (August 14, 2025) ordered the release of four lawyers and two students of the rights arrested by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) arrested protests with Grage Chennai Corporation (GCC) outside the Rippon building.

JUSTICES Mrs. Ramesh and V. Lakshminayanan’s divisional bench ordered the release of advocates K. Bharathi, K. Sutesh, Mohan Babu and R. Raj Kumar and students of law Muthuselvan and Valarmathi on condition that they should not give interviews to the media.
The bench also limited lawyers and law students in issuing a statement or publishing any report on social media in connection with protests or evicting protesting police during the interference night between 13 and 14 August 2025.
The Provisional Order was handed over to Habeas Corpus Petiton (HCP) filed by a colleague of lawyer S. Vijay accusing the police that he illegally detained up to five advocates and eight students, while moving 930 conservative workers protesting outside the GCC headquarters.
During the hearing of HCP, another lawyer General (AAG) J. Ravindran told the court that the police had only arrested four lawyers and two students of law and all other details were exempted in the city after several hours.
When the judges wanted to know the reason for their arrest, AAG said that the first information about the information (FIRS) was booked for damage to government buses and attacking a woman of constant during the eviction process. He also played some video shots to judges on the tablet.
After the judges watched the videos, the judges wrote: “On the nice facie view, people are accused of causing rebellion, arrested and imprisoned inside the buses. In other words, the police have already arrested the accused and seem to damage the bus later.”

“With regard to our above observations, we are of the opinion that the detention of four lawyers and two students of the police can be illegal,” the judges said, ordering their release because they were not before the judicial judge according to their arrest.
They also awarded the time by August 26, 2025 to present other materials to justify the accusation of lawyers and the rights to those in question, and order not to provide interviews or make a statement until the next case.
Previously, defending M. Radhakrishnan played a video of female lawyers Nilavumozhi, who was also illegally detained in connection with protests and brutally attacked police staff. He said the video became a viral in which a woman could complain about brutality.
