Heavy rains in Belagavi and surrounding areas

Heavy rains lashed parts of Belagavi district on Saturday (July 4), raising hopes among farmers.

The four main rain gauges in the district recorded 75 mm of rainfall in 24 hours.

However, there were also reports of damage. A dam bridge on the Hiranyakeshi river at Chandgad near Sankeshwar partially collapsed, diverting all traffic from the road.

A mud house belonging to Gangubai Varale at Jodakurali village near Chikkodi collapsed on Saturday (July 4) morning. However, no one was hurt as all the prisoners got out in time. The place was visited by officials of the tax office.

A compound wall of the Islamiya School Camp has collapsed in the Belagavi camp area. The ground of Government Sardar High School was flooded for hours.

Officials said around 2,000 cusecs of water was released from Maharashtra at the Rajapur barrage on the interstate border. Police have noted a slight increase in inflow in Krishna, Dudhganga, Vedanga, Malaprabha and Hiranyakeshi rivers.
