Due to heavy rains lashing parts of Andhra Pradesh in the wake of Cyclone Montha in the last few days, the inflow into the Pulichintala Dam in Palnadu district on the Krishna River has reached five million cusecs, prompting authorities to release water downstream as a precautionary measure on Thursday noon (October 30, 2025).
As a result, the Prakasam dam in Vijayawada also released excess flood water downstream. The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has warned residents of low-lying and island villages (regions of Lanka) along the Krishna River to remain vigilant.
Currently, both inflow and outflow in Prakasam barrage are around 2.74 lakh cusecs and officials said the first flood warning may be issued by evening if the flow continues to rise. The flood flow could touch five lakh cusecs before gradually receding.
APSDMA Executive Director Prakhar Jain advised people living in flood-prone areas to be cautious, stay away from the river, refrain from swimming or fishing and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
