Chennai Super Kings’ injury list continues to grow, with uncapped all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh the latest casualty in a bruising IPL 2026 campaign.
CSK confirmed on Sunday that Ghosh has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a fractured foot on his IPL debut against Mumbai Indians. The franchise announced the setback via social media, bringing an abrupt and unfortunate end to what began as a memorable first outing in yellow.
The 28-year-old made his long-awaited IPL debut in CSK’s emphatic eight-wicket win over Mumbai Indians on Saturday and in a brief appearance he showed enough to leave an impression. Ghosh, who was brought into the attack in a high-pressure match, conceded 24 runs in his three overs but struck a crucial blow by dismissing Suryakumar Yadav, who looked ominous after racing to 21 from just 12 balls.
Ghosh also made his presence felt in the field, taking a crisp catch to remove Will Jacks early in the innings and underlining the all-round value CSK saw in him.
His injury, which occurred late in the game, was a particularly harsh turn after an otherwise promising debut. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming admitted after the match that the defeat was a big disappointment, especially considering the balance that Ghosh brought to the side.
“It’s disappointing that he got injured towards the end. The other point is that he can bat and bat well, which is an area of great improvement. So you can really call him an all-rounder,” Fleming said in a post-match press conference.
Ghosh was picked up by CSK in the 2025 IPL auction and retained for the 2026 season, with the franchise eyeing him as a long-term utility option capable of contributing with both bat and ball.
His injury only deepens ČSK’s growing personnel crisis. The five-time champions have already been hit hard by fitness problems this season. Khaleel Ahmed has reportedly been ruled out with a serious quadriceps injurywhile Ayush Mhatre has been officially sidelined after suffering a hamstring injury. The biggest absentee remains MS Dhoni, who has yet to feature this season.
CSK has already moved to sign Akash Madhwal as Mhatre’s replacementbut they are yet to announce a replacement for Ghosh.
With injuries piling up and the business end of the season approaching, CSK will now have to regroup quickly ahead of their next encounter against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 5.
