Hassan: The company is removing sidewalk encroachments
Hassan City Corporation officers conducted a drive on Friday to clear the tracks of encroachments.
The staff removed billboards, mobile canteens and stalls located on BM Road, AVK College Road, MG Road and other adjacent roads in the city centre. Police officers defended the action, saying that freeing up sidewalks is essential for the benefit of pedestrians.
Commissioner R. Krishnamurthy said the drive will continue until all pavements are removed in the city. “Street vendors were asked to vacate the site well in advance. Even on Thursday, police officers warned people to remove their belongings. We removed the structures that remained despite repeated warnings,” he said.
The commissioner said it is the duty of the city local body to ensure that pedestrians can move freely. “We will conduct a drive at Dairy Circle and surrounding roads on Saturday. Shopkeepers who have set up stalls on the pavement should voluntarily vacate them in advance. Otherwise, our staff will remove them,” he said.
