Haryana suspends four doctors for poor monitoring of sex ratio rate

The Haryana government on Monday (May 18, 2026) suspended four health officials, including three senior officers, for alleged poor performance and failure to effectively monitor and implement measures aimed at improving the state’s gender ratio.

The suspension order was issued by Additional Principal Secretary (Health) Sumita Misra.

According to the order, with immediate effect Dr. Tina Anand, Senior Medical Officer (SMO) posted at Community Health Center (CHC) Purkhas in Sonipat, Dr. Vijay Parmar, SMO at CHC Radaur in Yamunanagar, Dr. Satpal, SMO at CHC Chiri in Rohtak, and Dr. Prabha, a doctor at Na CHC. Sehlang.

During the suspension period, four warrant officers will remain attached to the offices of the Civil Surgeons at Rohtak, Ambala, Jhajjar and Rewari.

“The government has also initiated disciplinary proceedings against the police officers under Rule 7 of Haryana Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 2016 against these officials for poor performance and failure to ensure effective monitoring and implementation of measures related to improvement of gender ratio,” the order said.

The Haryana government has recently stepped up its nationwide campaign to improve the sex ratio and curb illegal sex determination practices.

Ms. Misra directed district health authorities to introduce stricter enforcement and awareness measures in all districts.

Last week, she issued comprehensive instructions to civil surgeons in the state and said the health department is determined to ensure effective implementation of PC&PNDT Act and Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act to eliminate female feticide and promote gender equality.

It ordered all districts to significantly increase raids and inspections against illegal gender determination activities and strengthen monitoring mechanisms to identify and curb violations at the country level.

The officer emphasized that strict monitoring and prompt action are essential to improve the gender ratio in the state.
