Mayor Gundu Sudharani has directed engineers to prepare comprehensive designs under the ‘Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI)’ program to develop iconic tourist centres.
The Ministry of Tourism has launched “Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment – Development of Iconic Tourist Centers on a Global Scale” (SASCI) to comprehensively develop several iconic tourist spots across the country, promoting them globally.
On Tuesday, in a meeting with Commissioner Chahat Bajpai and senior technical officials at the GWMC headquarters, she directed officials to study all aspects of the scheme and submit final proposals by November 30.
The mayor emphasized that sites should be identified through strategic planning and proper documentation. According to her, the proposals must focus on archaeological promotion and the improvement of urban design in a city known for its rich historical heritage.
Under this plan, the civic body aims to develop pedestrian-friendly roads, strengthen the city’s infrastructure and increase public safety through CCTV surveillance. The mayor also proposed the creation of additional green spaces, parks and open spaces, including the development of a sponge park as part of the Sponge City concept to improve water conservation and resilience.
Further, as part of the City Green programme, the GWMC intends to extend greenery to 50 acres and restore the old wells to preserve the historical identity of Warangal.
Mayor Sudharani directed officials to incorporate these components in the SASCI proposals to ensure central assistance for sustainable and heritage-oriented urban development of the city.
