Thrissur’s famous tusker Thechikkottukavu Ramachandran once again created a new record and fetched an all-time high of ₹13.5 lakh for a single festival appearance.
The congannur desam poram committee has secured a majestic elephant for the Akkikkava Poram scheduled on February 7, breaking last year’s record.
In 2024, Ramachandran was hired for ₹13,33,333 by the Chalisseri Padinjaremukku Pooram Committee, setting a then record fee for an elephant performance. The new Kongannur Desam offering has now surpassed this number and reaffirmed Ramachandran’s unrivaled popularity among the organizers of the Pooram festival.
A spirited bidding was held at the Thechikkottukavu temple office on Tuesday morning where the Chemmannur Village Pooram Committee for the Cheeramkulam Pooram also competed fiercely to reserve an elephant.
As Akikavu Pooram closely coincided with Cheeramkulam Pooram, the competition to hire Ramachandran, known for his majestic presence and tall height, was intense.
