Guntur Police has started ‘Stop – Wash and Go’ drive to prevent road accidents

Guntur District Police has intensified visible policing and vehicle checks across the district to prevent road accidents during night hours and ensure the safety of motorists, on the instructions of Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal.

As part of the initiative, special vehicle checks are being carried out at Guntur toll gate, national highways, major junctions, busy areas and accident-prone places. Highway patrol teams carry out round-the-clock patrols and vehicle checks from night to early morning.

The police have introduced a ‘Stop – Wash and Go’ program to prevent fatigue-related accidents involving truck, bus and other drivers who travel long hours at night. Drivers are advised to stop briefly, rest, rinse their face with water and continue driving until alerted.

Police have urged tired drivers to park their vehicles only in designated car parks or safe rest areas, rather than pulling over on roadsides. Parking on the side of the highway could pose a serious risk to other road users, they warned.

In a statement on Wednesday, Mr. Jindal said strict action would be taken against motorists who violate traffic rules, including speeding, driving on the wrong route, driving under the influence of alcohol and carrying passengers beyond the permissible limits.

Police said public safety remains their top priority.
