FIDE has announced the venue, format, schedule and prize money for the highly anticipated World Championship match between defending champion D Gukesh and challenger Javokhir Sindarov. It will be a historic match as both Gukesh and Sindarov turn 20 when they sit on the board. So it will be the youngest World Cup match ever played.

I have played World Cup matches in some extraordinary cultural settings, including the Olympic Museum in Lausanne and the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn, and such an environment gives the competition its own character. The Fondation Martin Bodmer belongs to that tradition and is the right place for this match.”

The World Cup match will be held at the Fondation Martin Bodmer in Cologne, Geneva, Switzerland.
