Groundbreaking ceremonies for the one lakh Indiramma Indlu (home) will be held by the end of the month. The dates will be officially announced in the coming days. Ceremonies of all sanctioned houses should be completed before Phase-II of the housing project is launched in April, Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy instructed in a video conference with Telangana Housing Corporation officials held on Saturday (March 7).
The meeting included instructions regarding the delay in attributing installments to the beneficiaries and the impacts, the increase in construction material, the deadline for allocating vacant 2BHK and other aspects. This was held as part of the government’s 99-day action plan called “Praja Palana – Pragatiki Pranalika”.
A total of 3.6 million houses were sanctioned for the poor in rural areas. However, according to the minister, people still live in shacks in some parts and such families should be given priority in sanctioning houses. The groundbreaking ceremony for 20% of the sanctioned houses has not yet taken place and should be completed by the end of the month. The pre-completion homes should be ready by the end of June.
At the meeting, one of the persistent problems faced by the beneficiaries was the increase in the cost of building materials. The housing minister said the issue should be looked into by district level price monitoring committees and if necessary, meetings should be held with the collectors.
The minister warned the officials that action would be taken against the officials who delay in paying the installments for the construction of the house. Steps must be taken to ensure that people in Phase II do not face these challenges.
The selection of beneficiaries for 2BHK should be completed by March 31. Priority should be given to people who do not have land for construction.
