BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud along with Congress leaders met the family members of Eashwarachara who committed suicide apparently over BC reservations and handed over an ex gratia check of ₹5 announced by the government.
Mr. Goud said the incident was tragic and preventable and urged people not to lose hope, stressing that the Congress government is committed to securing BC’s reservations. He also announced that one member of the family would be provided contract work and an Indiramma housing unit.
“Suicide is not the answer. No one should resort to such extreme steps,” Mr. Goud said, assuring that the Congress and the Telangana government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, are making determined efforts to ensure that BC receives its rightful reservations. “We will ensure BC quota. No one should feel discouraged,” he added.
Mr Prabhakar said the government would continue to support the family in all possible ways and stressed that such incidents should never happen again. BC Commission Chairman G. Niranjan, TPCC Constitution Committee Chairman Bachao Vinay and several BC Corporation Chairmen and leaders were also present.
