The state government has advised people to take necessary precautions in view of the ongoing oppressive heat wave and not go out in the afternoon unless absolutely necessary.
The government said the weatherman had predicted temperatures above 44°C in some districts in the coming days. In view of the hot wind warnings in several districts, collectors are being kept on alert and instructed to take all necessary precautions to avoid adverse effects on public health.
Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said district administrations must remain prepared to handle heat waves and seasonal rains, with temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius likely in several districts such as Adilabad, Kumrambheem Asifabad, Mancherial and Nirmal, while Jagtial, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Peddapalli districts are likely to register higher temperatures.
“Unless there is an emergency, people are advised to stay indoors between 8.30am and 5pm,” he said.
Especially children, elderly and pregnant women should be extremely careful and consume sufficient water, buttermilk or ORS from time to time.
The district administration, on its part, should take steps to ensure electricity and water supply, while medical services including ambulances and fire brigade should be ready.
The minister called for more intensive heatstroke prevention awareness campaigns and advised farmers, laborers and construction workers to take precautions during extreme heat and avoid sheltering under trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms.
