Google revealed pricing for generating videos using its latest VEO 2 Artificial Intelligence (AI) model. The Mountain View-based tech giant will generate videos through its Vertex AI platform of $0.50 per second (about Rs 43). For long-term videos generated using AI models, this will be priced at up to $30 (about Rs 2,600). This is not consistent pricing, as the company also offers VEO 2 to select YouTube creators to generate video clips of shorts without any fees.
Google’s VEO 2 AI model pricing reveals on Vertex AI
On its pricing page, the tech giant details the charges it will charge for its Citizen AI users to access its videos to generate AI models. Generating videos in text prompts on the platform via VEO 2 will get users $0.50 per second. The price is pretty steep considering that competitors are offering video power at a cheaper price.
Breaking the pricing, users have to pay $30 for a minute of video generation, or $1,800 for an hour of video generation (about Rs 1,56,100). One thing to note here is that not every generated video follows 100% prompt, some of which may contain inconsistent situations that make them unusable in any form.
By contrast, Openai, Google’s main competitor in the AI field, will use the Sora AI model to provide 50-second videos to chat. The subscription is priced at USD 20 or Rs. 1,950 in India. This makes a minute of video generation worth about $1.2 or Rs. 120, in addition to other features provided in the subscription. It is worth noting that professional subscribers get higher but unspecified usage rates.
Another competitor, Runway, offers unlimited video generation with a monthly subscription of $76 (approximately Rs 6,590). Similarly, Pika Lab offers 6,000 video generation points for $76 per month subscription, the platform’s most expensive plan. Since the five-second video with the latest Pika 2.1 is generated, 60 points will be spent, the user essentially has to pay $9.12 or RS. 790 generates one-minute video.
It is obvious that most competitors offer video power at much cheaper prices. However, it should be noted that these aforementioned prices only take into account the final consumer prices. On the other hand, developers and organizations often use vertex AI. Enterprise pricing on other platforms has not been disclosed publicly.
According to a report, Google mocked Gemini Advanced’s video generation capability, a feature that could be introduced in the second half of the year. Depending on usage and the company’s increase in subscription prices, this could be a way to generate videos with VEO 2.
