Gita Gopinath, representative of the manager of the International Monetary Fund, will withdraw from her role in the global organization in August, she said on Monday.
Gopinath, born in India and now an American citizen, joined the IMF in 2019 as the main economist – the first woman to perform this role. In 2022, it quickly became a number to become an official No. 2 of the global organization.
Her resignation gives us the opportunity to name President Donald Trump to name her replacement and give his mark on the global crisis creditors.
The CEO of the IMF Kristalina Georgieva will be appointed by the successor of Gopinath in “Truth”, the IMF said.
Gita Gopinath resigned to her contribution in the IMF more than a year before the end of her tenure.
Why does Gita Gopinath leave the IMF?
In his statement, the IMF stated that Gita Gopinath was leaving the organization to join as a professor of economy at the University of Harvard, where she previously taught.
“Kristalina Georgieva, CEO of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has announced today that Gita Gopinath, the first representative of the CEO (FDMD), will leave the fund at the end of August to return to Harvard University,” she said.
Gopinath has taught the economy at Harvard for more than ten years before he became the main economist of the IMF.
The University of Harvard confirmed its development in its Bulletin and said, “GOPINATH returns as an opening professor of economics Gregory and Ania Coffey, with a new slate available next spring.”
Gita Gopinath returns to Harvard at a time when the university is on the cross parts with Donald Trump and his administration after rejecting the requirements for changing her administration, hiring and receiving practices.
Gopinath thanked his colleagues and called Stint IMF “once in a lifetime” and said, “Now I’m returning to my roots in the academic community where I look forward to continuing to promote the research border in international finances and macroeconomics to deal with global challenges and other generations of economics.”
The CEO of the IMF Kristalina Georgieva said that Gopinath joined the IMF as a highly respected academic and during his time proved to be an “exceptional intellectual leader”, which included pandemic and global shocks caused by Russian invasions of Ukraine.
