Modi govt asks people not to panic as if it’s citizens’ fault: Sagarika Ghose on LPG crisis
Accusing the government of failing to recognize the “severe shortage of LPG”, TMC Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson Sagarika Ghose said on Thursday (March 26, 2026) that the Center was disconnected from reality and made no attempt to reassure the affected citizens. The Trinamool Congress leader alleged that the government was trying to shift the blame and burden of the crisis on the common people.
“The Narendra Modi government is completely disconnected from all reality. All over India, be it small restaurants, restaurants, small industries, informal sector, labourers, households, senior citizens, students, everyone is bearing the brunt of this severe shortage of LPG gas,” Ms Ghose told PTI Videos.
“But the Modi government is just not willing to accept this reality. It is saying, ‘Please don’t panic.’ As if the citizens are responsible for this emergency, as if the citizens are to blame for panicking,” she said.
She said it was “obvious” that people would panic as she questioned why the government had not stockpiled supplies.
