Less than 30 percent of the time was devoted to legislative activity. This includes the time spent debating and passing bills.
In total, 31 draft laws were approved by the parliament. These include a bill to amend the regulations for waqf properties in India and a bill to simplify income tax laws. Online games for money and related services were banned. The nuclear energy and insurance sectors were opened.
MGNREGA, 2005 was amended. The guarantee of employment within the system was increased to 125 days. The sharing of funds between the Center and the State will be 60:40 (90:10 for North Eastern and Hill States).
During the 18th Lok Sabha term, 42 Bills were introduced in Parliament. 26% (11) of these bills were referred to a parliamentary committee for detailed scrutiny. (BREAST)
Serious business separately. The proceedings of the parliament also witnessed funny moments. Amid heated debates and heated arguments between lawmakers representing the government and the opposition, there were also many lighthearted moments.
Here’s a look at some of those moments as compiled by the ANI news agency in a video.
“Kya Hogaya…”: RLP MP Hanuman Beniwal
Amid a heated debate during the budget session of Parliament in February, members sitting in the Lok Sabha suddenly burst into laughter when RLP MP Hanuman Beniwal replied “kya higaya (what happened)” after being interrupted by a bell signaling him to end his speech.
Despite repeated reminders from Speaker Dilip Saikia, Lok Sabha MP Beniwal continued and eventually spoke. As he spoke, the bell rang again, indicating to the policeman that he should now rest.
“Kya hogaya,” the RLP MP said in a joking tone. “10:30-11:30 baj rahe hai, khabar to akhbaar mei chapni nahi ab… social media se ahoj kaam chalega (See, it’s already 10:30-11:30, we’re still discussing, it won’t go in the papers tomorrow, only social media is an option),” he said, leaving me laughing.
Jaya Bachchan Says ‘Don’t Control Me’
Another hilarious moment was during the ‘Operation Sindoor’ debate in the Rajya Sabha when the Samajwadi Party MP and actor Jaya Bachchan asked Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi not to try to control her. The video went viral as Priyanka couldn’t control her laughter.
The incident happened suddenly when Jaya Bachchan spoke in the Rajya Sabha and she was visibly upset that BJP MPs in the house started interrupting her speech.
To this Bachchan said, “Either speak or I will speak. I will not allow that. When you speak, I never interrupt. When a woman speaks, I never interrupt. So please watch your language.”
Priyanka Chaturvedi, who was sitting next to Bachchan, watched an angry Jaya Bachchan and tried to calm her down. But it turned around when Jaya said, “Priyanka, don’t control me.” To this Priyanka Chaturvedi responded with an embarrassed laugh. The other members laughed too.
Amit Shah ‘bald head’ shouts at Nehru
During the monsoon session of Parliament, Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remark “Nehruji’s head was like mine (Nehruji ka sir mere jaisa tha)” left everyone present divided.
As the Lok Sabha debated Operation Sindoor, BJP leaders targeted the previous Congress-led governments for not doing enough against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.
Shah mixed humor with history, quipping “My head is like Nehru’s” before getting serious – accusing Nehru of abandoning Assam during the 1962 war. The home minister claimed that the then prime minister Nehru had given nearly 38,000 km of land to China because he (Nehru) felt it was a useless piece of land.

Shah also said that the then Member of Parliament (MP) and Congress leader Mahavir Prasad Tyagi attacked his own government in Parliament and mocked Pandit Nehru that his (Nehru’s) head was bald so we should also hand it over to China.
Kalyan Banerjee’s Infiltrators Note
TMC legislator Kalyan Banerjee kept entertaining the house with his “dramatic” taunts in Parliament sessions. During the winter session of Parliament, which ended earlier this month, Banerjee surprised many in Parliament with a makeover. Mostly dressed in a Nehru jacket, paired with a kurta or shirt and full-sleeved trousers, the TMC MP donned a suit and red tie, drawing compliments from many for his ‘sharp look’.
In her Lok Sabha speech, Banerjee targeted the BJP over infiltrators. “They said the SIR would help identify the infiltrators. But they found none in the Bihar SIR.”
In other sessions, Banerjee has consistently questioned the government on its foreign policy, particularly with regard to Indo-US relations under President Donald Trump’s second term.
Brawl over the seat
In another video that also went viral, two MPs were caught on camera jockeying for space in the Lok Sabha
Either you speak or I speak. I won’t allow this. When you talk, I never interrupt. When a woman is talking, I never interrupt her. So please be careful with your language.
This happened when BJP MP Tejaswi Surya was speaking in the House during a debate on Operation Sindoor when two BJP MPs were seen getting into an argument over a seat and space in the background.

The video showed the two MPs arguing over a vacant seat. While one tried to apply it, the other resisted and sat on one of them. This encounter, though short and brief, quickly went viral on social media.
