BJP member V Sunil Kumar on Wednesday said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been “reduced to powerlessness” to the extent that it has affected state administration and taunted him by asking if it was due to putra vyamoha (love of son) or frequent mentions of stepping down.
“Earlier people used to call you Huliya (a man who is like a tiger). But your own party leaders are now saying that you are not the former Siddaramaiah,” Mr Sunil Kumar told the Chief Minister in the Assembly while participating in the vote of thanks for the Governor’s address.
“Your helplessness is marked by the fact that you failed to retain your own man KN Rajanna in your cabinet,” he remarked. “The demolition of government land encroachers at Kogilu Layout in Bengaluru also showed your helplessness as you rushed to protect the encroachers soon after your party bosses confronted them.
Accusing the Congress government of malpractice and widespread corruption, Mr. Sunil Kumar alleged that the government is treading the path of friction to divert public attention. “First they singled out the Union government and accused it of bias in releasing central grants. They even attacked the Election Commission of India. They spared no one, including the film industry and the Kannada Sahitya Parishat. It is just to cover up their own failure,” he alleged.
Even law and order under the Congress regime had become “selective” as it had different parameters for manipulating Congress leaders and others, he alleged. “This government has not only changed the caps of the police, but also changed their attitude to be pro-Congress. This is evidenced by the government’s failure to nab the culprits who attacked the residence of BJP MLA G. Janardhan Reddy and the delay in arresting a Congress leader who threatened Municipal Commissioner Sidlaghat,” he said.
Describing the decision to hold elections to the five municipal corporations under Greater Bengaluru through ballots as a “retrograde” measure, he wondered if the government was turning India’s Silicon Valley into the Stone Age. He tried to remind Congress leaders that EVM was introduced by their own leader Rajiv Gandhi.
