The ongoing high-profile court battle over Sunjay Kapur’s estate is in the spotlight after the late businessman’s widow Priya Kapur said it was a healthy tradition for a husband to give all his assets to his wife. The will submitted by the third wife of former Sony Comstar chairman is targeting its authenticity as Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor’s children are allegedly fake.
Counselor Priya Kapur said on Thursday, “There is nothing suspicious about a husband giving everything he has in his property to his wife. Like in the case of my father-in-law’s ‘will’ where everything was given to his wife. It is a healthy tradition that hopefully has been maintained,” PTI reported.
Samaira Kapur and her brother, seeking a share in their late father’s personal property, have filed a suit against Priya Kapur, her son, late Rani Kapur’s mother and Shradha Suri Marwah – the purported executor of the will dated March 21, 2025.
Priya Kapoor’s counsel further claimed that the same template was used by Sunjay’s mother for her will. “I was reluctant to show it due to confidentiality but the template is based on my mother-in-law’s (Rani Kapur) will… there are spelling mistakes because of the template it was taken from,” added senior advocate Rajiv Nayar representing Priya Kapur.
According to Priya Kapoor, the draft of the will was shown to Sunjay Kapur on 10 February 2025, who suggested some changes. After the last round of amendments, the same will was submitted on March 17, 2025, which was done while Sunjay was in Goa, argued advocate Nayar.
Justice Jyoti Singh presided over the Delhi High Court hearing on Friday in the dispute revolving around the estate of estimable Sunjay Kapoor. ₹30,000 million crowns. According to Live Law, on November 21, Priya Kapoor’s minor son opposed the lawsuit filed by Karisma Kapoor’s children.
According to senior advocate Akhil Sibal, representing the minor, the entire case was based on “speculation and guesswork”. “They (Karisma Kapoor’s children) will not get a copy of the Will because they refused to sign confidentiality. They are excluded and they know that the legal strategy is to challenge the Will, whether the Will is genuine or not,” Live Law quoted attorney Sibala as saying.
The chairman of a leading auto parts maker, Sunjay Kapur, died while playing polo in London in June. He was married to Karisma from 2003 to 2016 before tying the knot with Priya in 2017.
