The Anglo-Indian Welfare Federation of India has urged the Union government to fill up the vacancies in the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) at the earliest.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Augustine Roy Rozario, national president of the forum, said the Commission, a statutory body, had been defunct for several months due to vacancies arising from the end of the tenure of the chairman and some members.
Mr. Rozario pointed out that the post of the NCM Chairman has remained vacant after the retirement of Iqbal Singh Lalpura in April 2025. Besides, the posts of the Vice Chairman and five other members have remained vacant after the expiry of their terms, he added.
