Temba Bavuma did not give up the air. He did not join the rest of his teammates as they emerged to the field in Lord’s in London. Instead, the South African captain remained on the balcony of the Lord, moments after the winning run. He stood calm and soaked in emotions when South Africa won the final of the World Championship and ended 27 years of waiting. It was the peak of his test career – probably the most important moment in South African cricket history.
When he finally appeared to collect the test MACE, the crowd of the Lord reserved the loudest encouragement for the Towards of Bavum. He took South Africa, where no other man had: to the main trophy of ICC. This opportunity was even more meaningful years of close missions that preceded it, and the fact that it came under the leadership of the first black African captain in the country. It was a moment of counting – a report from Bavum and his team to a nation, which was still marked by the shadows of his racial history.
Final Report WTC | Most important
With Pois the leader who fought for more than just a trophy, he offered Bavum to his colleagues a sincere message to his colleagues.
“I mean, as a team, you know, we got to the finals. We were doubts about the route we went – allegedly playing weaker teams. We are glad that we were able to perform our best and hopefully this type.”
“And I think for us as a country, you know, there is an opportunity – how division, as we sometimes – forgot everything, rejoice at the moment and be just one. You know, I’m sure people will celebrate with us at home, and you can celebrate it,” Bavuma said.
South Africa, like Bavum, silenced doubts. Questions about the legitimacy of their place in the World Cup final were raised, although they ended up on top of the ranking. They played less matches than India, Australia and England, and critics claimed that their victory came against minor opponents. But on the largest scene, the South African Republic dismantled the serial winner of Australia and extinguished any persistent doubt. For Bavum, it was a landmark on a remarkable journey – the first black African captain of Proteas became the first to lift the ICC trophy.
Despite his talent, the Bavum has been examined for a long time. His place on the side was questioned and the “quota” system was repeatedly emphasized whenever it failed. In the 2023-25 WTC cycle, however, he responded to his critics with standout performances – scoring 711 runs on average 49 and remains undefeated as a captain.
South Africa defeated Australia with five goals, thanks to the sensational fourth century from Aiden Marcram and the bold knocking of Bavum, who fought with Hamstring’s injury to contribute 66. While the dough increased on this occasion, Kagiso Rabada was charged with nine goals, headed by a youthful pace of attack. Rabada, Marco Janansen and Lungi Ngidi joined perfectly to release Australia in only 207 in the second exchange, laid the basis for historical persecution.
Rabada is the future Hall of Fame: Bavum
Bavum praised Rabbad and declared him the future Hall of Fame. Rabada entered the finals under the cloud, after a ban on drugs, and the questions swirled around whether he was mentally ready for delivery. Replied as a champion.
“Yeah, like KG is a massive player. A few days ago I took part in the ICC Induction Hall. I think KG will be one of those guys in a few years.”
“He came into play with a controversy behind him. He was motivated to do what he had to do, and as a champion came and did what he did,” Bavuma said.
‘Aiden played in Aiden fashion’
He also showed praise on his “crime partner”, Aiden Markram, who in the finals culminated in scoring charts with an excellent 136 in the fourth shift.
“Incredible. I think a few months ago people asked why they didn’t see him in the team. Statistics are important, but the character is something people don’t always see.”
“A guy like Aiden, you know, embodies it all. When you’re in the second shift, you have to stand up and do it – in fact Aiden.
The character was a big thing for us as a team, and these two boys really carry it, ”said Bavuma.
He stressed that this triumph is perhaps just the beginning for South Africa. The team has long been teeming with raw talent and finally learned how to exceed the last obstacle – and now they will be starver than ever.
