Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has called for a full report by February 9 (Monday) on the food poisoning incident at the tribal boys’ hostel at Devarapalli in Polavaram district and ordered that proper care be given to the ailing inmates.
Taking stock of their health on Sunday, Mr. Naidu said the district collector should take departmental action against officials and employees of the tribal welfare departments for dereliction of duty. He wanted the status of students to be continuously monitored and the CMO to receive regular updates.
He also instructed the concerned officials to set up a special medical camp in the hostel to screen the remaining students and collect food and water samples for testing.
Officials told the chief minister that 92 students fell ill after breakfast on Saturday (February 7) morning. They had vomiting, stomach pain, fever and diarrhea and the affected students were admitted to local hospitals in Maredumilli and Rampachodavaram.
