Flash floods in Nepal LIVE: Death toll rises to 939, missing falls to 3,925, disaster bureau says

Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang left the ‘Sikkim for Nepal’ relief mission and sent a team of about 35 members to the flood and landslide-hit areas of the Himalayan country with essential supplies and medical aid.

In a post on X, he said, “In a humble effort to extend a helping hand and express our sincere solidarity with Nepal and its people, Sikkim has come forward to provide essential relief material and medical assistance to those affected by this tragedy.

Organized by the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), the mission will transport medicines, food and other essential relief materials to the affected communities besides providing medical and rescue assistance.

The team consists of medical personnel, rescue workers and volunteers who have been mobilized to help people in areas affected by devastating floods and landslides.

Mr Tamang said he had flagged off a dedicated SKM team under the banner of ‘Sikkim for Nepal’, describing the initiative as a reflection of the ‘spirit of compassion, humanity and brotherhood’ shared by the people of the region.

“In times of adversity, we must remain united and extend a helping hand to those in need,” the CM said.

He also expressed solidarity with the families who lost loved ones and those affected by the disaster, saying Sikkim’s prayers and thoughts were with the people of Nepal as they began the difficult task of rebuilding and rebuilding.
