
A fire broke out in Coach B-1 of Train No. 12431 Thiruvananthapuram–Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express on Sunday. All passengers were safely evacuated, with no reported injuries or casualties. The authorities are investigating the cause, firefighting operations are underway.
West Central Railway of Kota Division said, “Fire was reported in Coach B-1 (near SLR end) of Train No. 12431 Thiruvananthapuram–Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express between Luni Richha (LNR) and Vikramgarh Alot (VMA) at Km 729/02 (Loco/14 All-16 of theR Down) affected passengers in the R direction. There was no immediate injury or loss of passengers. nor the railway staff.
Authorities elaborated on the incident: “The concerned B-1 coach has been disconnected from the rake. Railway staff and officers have rushed to the spot and are engaged in fire fighting operations. Train No. 12955 has been held up at Mahidpur Road (MEP). The stretch will be cleared soon. The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
Where did the Rajdhani Express catch fire?
In the early hours of May 17, a Rajdhani Express coach caught fire in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district, railway officials told PTI. The fire reportedly broke out at 5.15 am in the Kota railway division.
The train coach that caught fire was carrying 68 passengers, said senior railway business manager Sourbah Jain. Once the authorities were alerted to the incident and the affected bus was disconnected from the rake, emergency measures were taken immediately. The overhead electrical supply (OHE) was immediately switched off to prevent the fire from spreading further.
“All the passengers were deboarded from the train. None of the passengers sustained injuries,” railway PRO Ravinder Lakhar Kota was quoted as saying by PTI. For the remaining journey to Kota, arrangements have been made to accommodate them in other coaches and another coach will be connected at Kota station to restore full capacity.
