Mudivedu police in Madanapalle sub-division of Annamayya district on Wednesday unveiled a unique road safety initiative aimed at promoting responsible driving and reducing accidents.
The police organized a life-size police car diorama and decoys on the accident-prone stretches of the Madanapalle-Anantapur highway. The design resembled real police personnel on duty and forced drivers to slow down and obey traffic laws immediately.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Dheeraj Kunubilli said reckless driving, speeding and neglect of safety equipment such as helmets and seat belts remained the main causes of deaths. SP called on motorists to strictly follow traffic regulations and avoid overtaking in confusing corners. “Every motorist should take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others,” he said.
The initiative was launched at Vishwam College, Kadapa Cross and Dommannabhavi Circle with plans to extend it to major intersections, national and state highways, school zones and accident-prone areas.
Mr Dheeraj Kunubilli appealed to the public to wear helmets and seat belts, avoid drink driving and obey speed limits. The initiative will be monitored 24 hours a day by highway patrol teams, he said.
