Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan on Thursday said crops on 1.38 lakh hectares were damaged in the state due to Cyclone Montha, 46,000 hectares in Krishna district alone, according to preliminary estimates.
Nearly 56,000 farmers have been affected in Krishna district alone, he said during a visit to the cyclone-hit areas in Avanigadda constituency, assuring that every affected farmer would get compensation from the government and all possible support provided to them.
Inspecting the agricultural fields and places where the cyclone wreaked havoc, Mr. Kalyan said the government could effectively deal with the calamity through advance preparations. The damage could be mitigated due to careful planning done under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, he claimed.
Mr. Kalyan said officials were continuously monitoring the movement of the cyclone and taking necessary precautions. About 1.16 lakh people have been shifted to rehabilitation centers and their safety has been ensured, he said and promised to bring the problems faced by the tenant farmers to the notice of the Chief Minister.
