ESIC Medical College and Hospital in Kalaburagi celebrated the foundation day ceremony in conjunction with International Women’s Day at the college auditorium here on Tuesday.
The dean of the institution, SV Kshirsagar, in his welcome address highlighted the achievements and steady growth of the medical college and hospital.
He also outlined the various initiatives undertaken during the fortnight special ESIC Foundation Day which included activities aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery, raising awareness and encouraging employee engagement.
Dr. Appreciating the contribution of women in strengthening the health services of ESIC, Kshirsagar thanked the female employees of the institution, including doctors, nurses, faculty members, administrative and housekeeping staff, for their dedication and compassionate service in patient care and institutional development.
A video presentation on the institution’s journey showcased its milestones and the efforts of staff and educators in supporting quality medical education and health services.
The program included vote of thanks by Chief Guest Bhagyashree Patil, who is Associate Professor at MR Medical College, Kalaburagi, and Guest of Honor Arundhati Patil, who is Professor at the same institution.
Special recognition was also given to Megha Shivakumar, who is an external member of the Internal Grievance Committee, for her service to the institution.
Several female employees were also awarded for their contribution.
In a speech at the gathering, Dr. Bhagyashree Patil said that International Women’s Day is observed to give equal recognition and respect to women in the society.
She referred to the constitutional guarantees under Articles 14, 19 and 21 and emphasized that these provisions promote the equality and fundamental rights of women.
She also cited historical figures like Akkamahadevi and Rani Lakshmibai as examples of courage and leadership and encouraged women to follow the theme of the day, Gain to Give, by empowering themselves and supporting others.
Dr. Arundhati Patil spoke about the challenges women have faced historically and emphasized that empowerment starts with self-respect and responsibility.
She said that equality does not mean sameness, but a balance between men and women, where both contribute to society in different ways.
She also emphasized the need for clean and accessible public facilities and called for zero tolerance for disrespectful behavior towards women.
Prizes were given to the women for their performances in competitions like quiz, rangoli, reel making and abstract painting held as part of the celebrations.
It included presentations and a cultural program by female workers.
Dean of ESIC Dental College and Hospital, Kalaburagi, Prashant Patil concluded the program with vote of thanks. This was followed by the singing of Vande Mataram and the National Anthem.
