Indian cricket stalwart Smriti Mandhana’s wedding was postponed after her father showed symptoms of a heart attack while the celebrations were underway at Mandhana’s farm in Samdol, Maharashtra. He was immediately taken to the hospital where he remained under medical care.
The family confirmed that his condition is currently stable and being monitored. Mandhana was to marry music composer Palash Muchhal on Sunday – the same day her father suffered a heart attack.
The wedding management informed the media that the ceremony was called off.
“This morning while he was having breakfast, Smriti Mandana’s father, Mr. Srinivas Mandhana, fell ill. We waited for a while. We thought maybe it was normal, he would be fine. But he got worse. So we thought, let’s not take any chances, so we called an ambulance and took him to the hospital. He is now under observation,” said Smriti’s manager.
Mandhana shares a close bond with her father, who has been a part of her cricketing journey since the beginning.
“You see, Smriti is very close to her father. She has decided that until her father recovers, this marriage, which was supposed to be today, is postponed indefinitely. Now he is under observation and the doctor said he will have to stay in the hospital. And until he recovers, because we are also in shock and we want him to recover soon,” he added.
When will the wedding be?
The date of the wedding has yet to be decided. No new date has been announced and the ceremony has been postponed indefinitely.
Social media has been flooded with videos and photos from the couple’s pre-wedding celebrations on film in recent days. The festivities were in full swing and included traditional ceremonies like Mehendi, Haldi and Sangeet. To keep things fun for the couple, they also organized a light-hearted cricket match of the bride’s team against the groom’s team, which brought a lot of laughter and excitement to the guests.
