England captain Harry Brook is eager to learn from hero Pietersen after the historic ton

England captain Harry Brook said he is eager to learn from his hero Kevin Pietersen after scoring a historic hundred during the first T20I against Sri Lanka. Brook scored 114 off 49 ballshe became the third captain to have multiple T20I hundreds after Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam.

Brook’s sensational knock coincides with Pietersen’s first match as the white-ball specialist’s mentor. After the win, the England captain said the legendary batsman is a great addition to the dressing room and wants to work with him more.

“Obviously we haven’t had a lot of time together yet, but he’s a great figure in the innings – the type of player he was, he looked at batting a bit differently, similar to me,” Brook said of Pietersen.

“He always wants to try to put the pitcher under pressure and I’m looking forward to working with him a lot more.”

England have added former star batsman Pietersen to Brendon McCullum’s coaching groupwith the ex-international set to work alongside the squad as they prepare for next year’s Under-50 World Cup in South Africa.

Brook hopes Pietersen can have a big impact on his career, not just in the white-ball format but also in Tests.

“I actually watched his (Pietersen’s) moments earlier, funnily enough,” Brook said. “He was a phenomenal player. The way he approached different areas of the ground meant it was really difficult for the captain and the bowling and I’m looking forward to talking about that a lot.”

“This is not just for white-ball cricket but also for Test cricket. I hope it can have a big impact on my career.”

“He’s a hero to a lot of players in that box. We all grew up watching him and admiring his work and it’s just amazing to have a man of his caliber in the box.”

The second T20I between England and Sri Lanka will be played on September 17.
