As many as 29 parks spread over 18 acres in Nellore Rural constituency have been acquired from land grabbers and secured with compound walls.
Several plots of land earmarked for park development in various layouts were slowly and systematically encroached upon. The total value of the threatened land was estimated at ₹400 million.
When Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy came to know about the matter, he warned the encroachers of dire consequences and simultaneously started mobilizing funds to protect the places.
After discussions with leaders and officials at various levels, Mr. Sridhar Reddy recently launched the ‘Chandranna Parkula Bata’ initiative and mobilized ₹7 crore for the construction of walls around the parks.
According to him, the next phase will focus on the development of public spaces and basic amenities. “The parks will become a favorite place for citizens as the encroachers have been chased away. In the second phase, we are installing a lighting system, improving greenery and building a children’s play area,” he said.
The Nellore Rural MLA issued a strong warning and said that those watching public spaces will be taught a lesson.
