Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday reiterated that job creation remains the top priority of the Karnataka government and announced that job fairs will be organized in every district to provide job opportunities to the youth.
While inaugurating the ‘Yuva Samruddhi Udyoga Mela’ (Mega Job Fair) organized by the Ministry of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood at the Maharaja’s College Grounds in Mysuru, Mr. Siddaramaiah rejected the BJP’s allegation that the government had stopped training candidates for Niva skills for Yuva.
“Yuva Nidhi assistance will be discontinued only after the beneficiary secures a job. Our government walks the talk, unlike Prime Minister Narendra Modi who promised two million jobs every year but failed to deliver,” Siddaramaiah said.
Elaborating on the achievements of the Congress government and the jobs created so far, the Chief Minister said that the job fairs held in Bengaluru in the last two-and-a-half years benefited 58,892 applicants, of which 11,507 received appointment letters and 22,819 were shortlisted. 1,20,563 candidates participated in the district level job fairs out of which 24,391 received appointment letters and 48,232 were shortlisted, he informed.
Accusing the previous BJP government of neglecting job seekers, Mr. Siddaramaiah said, “Our government has already filled 28,000 vacancies and approved the recruitment of 35,000 more.”
He said the Congress government is implementing industry-relevant skill development programs and remains committed to creating employment opportunities for the youth across the state.
HC Mahadevappa, Minister in-charge of Mysuru region; Sharan Prakash Patil, Minister for Medical Education and Skill Development; K. Venkatesh, Minister of Animal Husbandry and Husbandry; Tanveer Sait and D. Ravishankar, MLAs; Kanta Nayak, Karnataka Skill Development Corporation (KSDC) Chairman; and others were present.
The job fair was well received, with more than 13,000 applicants. Around 235 companies participated, offering 1,346 jobs to selected candidates. As many as 3,303 candidates were shortlisted. The total number of applicants registered for the job fair here was around 24,000.
Dr. Patil said six job fairs held earlier at the taluk and district levels helped 12,966 candidates secure jobs, while 1,177 were placed through three recruitment drives organized in collaboration with colleges. He urged the Yuva Nidhi beneficiaries to take advantage of these opportunities and added that jobs are available for candidates with minimum and higher education.
More than three million youth across the state, including 43,500 in Mysuru division, have registered under the Yuva Nidhi programme.
