Rabies is a paradigm of “One Health” and elimination strategies – focused on mass dog vaccination, control of animal contraception and prophylaxis after exposure – should go hand by 2030 to achieve zero rabies, said Katie Hampson, professor of ecology and public health.
Here she delivered the main speech at the National Symposium at the National Symposium on “Rabies and One Health: towards zero until 2030”, organized on Friday at the University of Health Sciences, School of Public Health on Friday.
However, the process must be maintained and a reactive approach would not help. Latin American nations, which have significantly invested in vaccination against mass dogs, have seen rabies’ death in the last 20 years. But in Asia, despite the high investment in prophylaxis after the exhibition, human angry continues to claim lives, Dr. Hampson.
For every death of human rabies, more than 300 cases of rabies for dogs are reported in Kerala. The integrated strategy of bite case management is the only health approach to improve the supervision of rabies, but one health abilities need building and all parties should work together. One health is increasingly recognized, but rarely operated, she emphasized.
Global elimination of dog rabies is possible, but long -term planning, determination and sustainable strategies are crucial, which takes time to introduce and efforts to build skills and experience, said Dr. Hampson.
Vice -President Kuhs, Mohanan Kunnumal, inaugurated a symposium attended by experts from all over the country.
Martha Luka, a PhD scholar of the University of Glasgow, spoke about the cost -effectiveness of prophylaxis before the exhibition. Reeta S. Mani, Professor of Neurovirology, Nimhans; Manoj V. Murhekar, Director, ICMR-Natorial Institute of Epidemiology; Julie Corfmat, Animal Care Director, Mission Rabies India; Zinia T. Nuju, another professor of community medicine; R.
