‘E20 gives lower mileage’: Arvind Kejriwal writes to PM Modi, demands lower prices, reviews introduction of older cars | Today’s news

AAP national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said he had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday asking him to reduce the price of E20 fuel as it provides lower mileage.

“…I have appealed to PM Modi to reduce the price of E20 fuel; since E20 has lower mileage, its price should also be lower… I have also sought an appointment to meet him… I want to tell everyone who is troubled by these issues to make videos and post them on social media because this government will not listen to us so easily…” Kejriwal said in a press conference.

He also said that in his letter he urged the Prime Minister to reconsider the introduction of E20 petrol for vehicles not designed to run on mixed fuel.

In the letter, Kejriwal claimed that the use of E20 petrol in older vehicles has led to reduced mileage along with faster engine wear and is also putting a financial burden on owners of cars manufactured before 2023.

It also required gas stations to be able to give their customers a choice of either ethanol fuel or pure gasoline.

The former Delhi CM has been raising the issue for some time now, having also written to car manufacturers last week asking if they would compensate their customers if the E20 results in wear and tear or a drop in mileage.

“So I asked them two questions: If the use of E-20 leads to more than five percent mileage reduction or damages any component, will there be compensation? Should they inform the public whether E20 can be used in the cars manufactured by them till 2023. If yes, then in case of mileage problems or damage to any component, will the company compensate the loss?” Kejriwal said?

Kejriwal petrol pump visit

On Saturday, Kejriwal visited a petrol station and a petrol station in Delhi where he interacted with vehicle owners about the impact of E20 petrol. He argued that the Modi government’s claims about blended fuel do not match consumer experience.

After his visit, Kejriwal wrote on X: “I went to a petrol pump and petrol station in Delhi today to understand the ground reality. The government is telling blatant lies. E20 petrol is really causing problems in vehicles. Common people are deeply upset about ethanol. Almost everyone I spoke to said their vehicle mileage has gone down and many have complained of mechanical problems.”

He added: “For the last few days, I have observed that anyone in the country who is against E20 petrol is being abused by the ministers of this government. They are being called anti-nationals, traitors, agents of the petrol lobby, unemployed social activists and several other names. I want to tell Prime Minister Narendra Modi that such arrogance is out of place.”

Kejriwal also claimed that people who are raising concerns about E20 are citizens and should not be labeled negatively.

“All those who are raising concerns about E20 petrol are saddened by its impact. They are our fellow citizens. They are not traitors. They are patriots. It is wrong to abuse them like this. I want to say to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that they should not be insulted like this. We live in a democracy. Listen to what they have to say. It is their government’s duty to listen and reach out to them, it is their government’s duty. NOR.
