US President Donald Trump refused to exclude the use of military power to gain control of Greenland – the autonomous territory of Denmark and the largest island in the world.
“I don’t rule out it. I’m not saying I will do it, but I don’t rule out anything,” Trump said during an interview with NBC News. “We need Greenland very badly. Greenland is a very small number of people we take care of and we will appreciate them, and all. But we need it for international security.”
Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in expanding the US to Greenland, citing its strategic importance for defense and unused mineral resources. At that time, the idea of hovering during its Presidency was broadly condemned by Danish and Greenland officials.
“Highly unlikely” with Canada – but open interviews
When Trump asked about the possibility of using military power to absorb Canada into the US, he said he was “very unlikely”, but in particular he left the door open for diplomatic discussion.
“I don’t see it with Canada. I just don’t see it, I have to be honest with you,” he said.
Trump mentioned that he recently spoke with the new Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, but explained that they had not yet spoken of the idea that Canada would become 51. Yet he expressed his willingness to raise it during the expected visit of Carney in Washington.
“I will always talk about it. You know why? He subsidizes Canada to a melody of $ 200 billion a year,” Trump said. “We don’t need their cars. We don’t really want their cars. We don’t need their energy. We don’t even want their energy. We have more than them.”
“We have great lumber”: Trump on Canada sources
Trump rejected the idea that the US economically benefits from the trade in Canada.
“We don’t want their lumber. We have a large lumber. Just what I have to do is free it from the lunatics in the environment,” he said in a well -known strike on environmental regulations.
He also claimed that the inclusion of Canada into the US would be beneficial and cost savings. “If Canada were part of the US, it wouldn’t cost us. It would be great … it would be a respected condition.”
“Drawn artificial line”
Trump also reduced the political border separating the US and Canada and called it a “artificial line”.
“When I look at it without this artificial line that was drawn with the ruler many years ago – it was just an artificial line, it goes straight. You don’t even realize it,” he said. “What a beautiful country would it be.”
