In a shocking incident, a domestic helper allegedly brutally killed her employer’s dog in the lift of an apartment building on Kannur Road in Bengaluru recently.
The brutal act was captured by a CCTV camera installed in the elevator. The accused, identified as Pushpalatha, 29, was seen picking up the dog by its leash and then smashing it against the elevator floor, killing the pet Goofy on the spot.
The visual shows the accused dragging the limp puppy from the elevator into the apartment.
The CCTV footage went viral and sparked a lot of outrage from the public and animal lovers.
Rashika KR reportedly told the owner that the dog died mysteriously and she didn’t know how. Suspicious of her behaviour, Rashika reported the matter to the police who verified the CCTV footage which revealed the domestic helper killing the dog.
Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and also under Section 325 (Unlawful killing, poisoning, maiming or abusing any animal) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and arrested her.
The accused was hired in September as a domestic help on a salary of ₹23,000 per month. During interrogation, Pushpalatha reportedly claimed that she was frustrated by the pet’s constant barking.
The probe revealed that she had recently been caught stealing valuables from the house and had been warned not to do it again. Police suspected she killed the pet as an act of revenge.
