Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddywho resigned from office on Thursday, should be appointed Telangana State Security Adviser in the rank of Chief Secretary. An official order is expected soon, multiple police and government sources confirmed.
The move comes a day after the government was appointed 1991 batch IPS officer CV Anand as new DGP. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is believed to have decided to draw on the vast experience of Mr. Shivadhar Reddy to lead the administration on law, order and internal security issues. It may be recalled that during the BRS regime, former DGP Anurag Sharma was appointed Advisor to the Government on Police, Law and Order and Crime Control soon after his retirement in 2017. His tenure was extended in 2020 and continued till December 2023 when the Congress government canceled all appointments of advisors. Since assuming office, the Congress government has appointed several advisers, but none exclusively on security matters. The appointment of Mr. Shivadhar Reddy will be the first such post created for a retired IPS officer.
