
Occasional heavy showers accompanied by squalls of winds that have captivated Alappuzha since Saturday, destroyed two houses and damaged another 29 apartments in different parts of the district. Destroyed houses were in the villages of Kainakary South and Thakazhi in Kuttanad. Many houses suffered damage after the trees fell on them.
People living along the coast are on the edge after being affected by high tidal waves. Strong waves caused confusion in PunnaPra, Thrikkunnapuzha and AmbbalAppuzha, including coastal areas.
Water gliding was reported from several low -laid areas in the district. On Sunday, officials said there was no panic situation and carefully monitored the water level in the rivers in the region. They said the buildings have already been identified to open 394 relief camps in the case of emergencies.
Meanwhile, the irrigation department has launched preliminary steps to reduce the open Thotappally Poshi to ensure the flow of excess water from Kuttanad to the sea. The district collector Alex Varghese visited the Poshi and reviewed the preparations.
The weather agency on Monday announced an orange warning of isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in Alappuzha. She also declared a yellow warning of insulated heavy rainfall in the district for the next three days.
