Meaning of Diwali
Diwali is one of India’s most celebrated festivals and the larger Indian diaspora has spread across the globe. The festival signifies the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.
Also known as the Festival of Lights, the festival marks the occasion of Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana in a fierce battle. Houses are cleaned and illuminated with lights during the festival.
Goddess Lakshmi, the diety of wealth and prosperity, is also worshiped on this day.
In West Bengal, the goddess Kali is worshiped as a symbol of the victory of good over evil.
