Shabir Ahmed Lone, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist and handler of the recently arrested LeT module in the Metro Poster case, was arrested by the Delhi Special Cell team on Monday.
According to officials, the accused is a suspected sleeper cell worker linked to a terrorist cell.
Further information is still awaited.
Earlier on February 23, Delhi Police arrested eight suspects in connection with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), with investigations revealing that the module was working with Shabir Ahmed Lon, who had previously spent a decade in jail for terrorism, was released on bail in 2019 and subsequently fled to Bangladesh, sources said.
Shabir Ahmed Lone was in direct contact with top commanders of banned terrorist organizations Hafeez Saeed and Zaki-ur-Rahman Lakhvi who are the masterminds of 26.11.
The Delhi Police are currently interrogating the eight arrested men over whether they were planning to attack the temple or the high-traffic area.
Sources said Lone was tasked with recruiting and radicalizing Bangladeshis residing illegally in India. He managed to unlearn the ideology of Letu by brainwashing the eight arrested.
Lone sought out illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and provided them with fake identity documents such as Aadhar cards through exhortation. The accused were provided weapons to carry out the attack, sources said.
