The Delhi High Court on Thursday (May 7, 2026) issued notice to NDTV on a defamation suit filed by businessman Anil Ambani over the channel’s reporting on cases registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against companies associated with him.
Mr Ambani’s lawyer said 72 “targeted publications” had been issued against him in the past eight months. It was argued that although Mr. Ambani was distinct from the entities under investigation, his name was repeatedly highlighted whenever proceedings were initiated against any of the companies.
Today, the court did not take any preliminary measures, stating that questions related to Article 19, paragraph 1 letter a) Constitutions and freedom of expression require careful consideration. She tabled the matter for further discussion in July.
Mr. Ambani sought damages in excess of ₹2 million in the suit, saying that any amount awarded would be donated to charitable causes.
