Delhi: FSSAI suspends license of Park Plaza Hotel over hygiene lapses, expired food products | Today’s news

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended the food license of Delhi-based Park Plaza Hotel, operated by Mahagun Hotels, after it found several food safety violations, including the use of degraded cooking oil and poor hygiene standards.

In a social media post on Tuesday FSSAI said that it has suspended “the license of M/s Park Plaza located at Shahdara, Delhi” with immediate effect.

“After a thorough inspection, several critical and gross non-conformances were found,” FSSAI said.

During an inspection, the food safety regulator found that the hotel was using highly rancid, darkened cooking oil for frying, making it unsafe for human consumption.

Officials also reported serious sanitation issues throughout the campus. The inspection revealed water leaks in walk-in coolers, standing water from broken floor tiles and significant fly and cockroach infestations in food handling areas.

“Mold growth was visible on tomatoes and beetroot and on spoiled lemons stored for active use,” the regulator said.

FSSAI further observed that the establishment failed to maintain proper segregation between vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, ingredients and utensils. Inspectors also found live earworms in the food preparation area, highlighting major deficiencies in food safety procedures.

In addition, authorities seized 63.60 kilograms of expired food stored for use in food preparation, raising concerns about compliance with food safety regulations.

The action comes amid wider law enforcement FSSAI. In recent months, the regulator has taken action against several energy drink and alcoholic beverage manufacturers for misleading claims and labeling violations and has issued notices to various e-commerce platforms.

According to FSSAI, these enforcement actions are initiated based on consumer complaints, suo motu actions and routine inspections conducted by food safety officials.

The regulator is also publishing details of its enforcement actions against food business operators and e-commerce firms on social media platforms, including Instagram, to raise public awareness.

FSSAI directed the hotel to rectify all violations within 15 days and meet the prescribed food safety norms. Failure to correct deficiencies may result in permanent license revocation.

FSSAI penalizes Sopan restaurant for serving substandard food on Chandigarh-Dibrugarh highway

FSSAI on Saturday said it has fined Sopan restaurant for serving substandard food in the pantry car of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express.

In a post on social media, the food regulator said a court order had been issued against the Sopan restaurant after it was found guilty of selling food that did not meet prescribed quality standards.

The event followed the testing of a sample of Nova flavored two-tone milk collected from pantry car No. 15904 of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express, where Sopan Restaurant operated catering services.

According to FSSAI, the milk sample was examined by the Assam State Public Health Laboratory. The food analyst declared the sample non-compliant under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS) 2006.

After the laboratory findings, the officer-in-charge of North East Frontier Railway, Maligaon, forwarded the analysis report to the manufacturer and the concerned parties for further action as per law.

The fine is part of FSSAI’s ongoing efforts to strengthen food safety compliance and ensure that food served to railway passengers meets the quality standards prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
